[4th] Year Midterm Review
March 13, 2013 § 2 Comments
On Friday, March 8, Travis Hicks’ [4th] year studio had its midterm review, evaluating the progress of this semester’s “capstone” projects. Guests for the critique were Christina Nguyen (Architect and Interior Designer at ESPA Architects) and IARc professor Stoel Burrowes.
Students represented their designs both digitally and with physical models. This studio’s design work has taken two separate avenues. Most students have been collaborating with Team Tidewater Virginia on the “Canopy House” for the 2013 Solar Decathlon. Other students are developing preliminary designs for the 2015 Solar Decathlon, drawing inspiration from Greensboro’s Glenwood neighborhood.
Travis’ [4th] years have been encouraged to take initiative in exploring design at multiple scales. Indeed, Friday’s critique provided examples of neighborhood design, architectural design, interior design, product design, and graphic design. At this stage in their education, the [4th] years are homing in on specific areas of interest as they “take route” toward graduation and the myriad opportunities to follow.Contributed by Kara Harman, [4th] year.
