Stargazing: Recognizing the Potential of UNCG’s Faculty and Staff
October 28, 2012 § Leave a comment
This month, Patrick Lee Lucas and the Faculty Teaching and Learning Commons are celebrating excellent teaching by honoring phenomenal teachers at UNCG with giant gold stars. In the end, they will all come together to form UNCG’s very own constellation of bright stars. As Executive Director of the Faculty Teaching and Learning Commons, Patrick has handed out more than 75 gold stars in the last month to honor UNCG faculty for their outstanding teaching. Of course, Patrick will not be able to make it around to every exceptional teacher on campus, but he has relied on several factors in order to decide which professors have earned gold stars, including word of mouth, teachers who have been honored previously for their teaching abilities, and good faculty and student connections around campus. On Thursday, November 1 from 4-6 pm, the Faculty Teaching and Learning Commons will host the “Faculty Center Takeover” with Jackson Library’s own Beth Filar Williams and Beth Bernhardt, alongside Adam Arney from the Office of Online Learning. The event will involve a Craft Beer and Apple Cider tasting. By bringing together the best teachers on campus through both the gold stars and the Faculty Center Takeover, FTLC provides a common space for great conversation and collaboration among the faculty and staff of UNCG.
