The Preservation North Carolina annual conference was held last week in Asheville, NC where the graduate program’s Historic Preservation Concentration was awarded a Gertrude S. Carraway Award of Merit. This award is presented to those who “have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to promoting historic preservation.” Named for Dr. Gertrude Carraway of New Bern, a leader in preservation, these awards have been presented to individuals and groups for 75 years. Our program was specifically honored for benefiting and engaging the entire state, being the best program in the south, and “preparing preservationists for the years to come.” This last comment can also be seen in some of the speakers presenting new research at the conference, Abby Gentry and Megan Klem, who graduated from the program last spring!
