On Thursday, March 29, several students from Assistant Professor Travis Hick‘s IAR 451 class attended a regional event hosted by WithIt, the Women’s Leadership Development Network. The event was held at the Bernice Bienenstock Furniture Library in High Point. Guest speaker Danielle Hatfield presented an informal lecture entitled “The Social Media Field Guide: How to Grow Real Relationships.” The lecture provided useful information on how to grow a business and build meaningful relationships through the use of online social networking. Main points included assessment of online social tools, branding basics, career strategies, community-building tips, and suggestions on how to map one’s progress. Danielle also gave a list of “weekly chores” related to social networking. She encouraged her listeners to do the following on a weekly basis:
- comment on at least five blogs
- write hand-written notes to people
- create new blog content for one’s own blog
- give five people a friendly phone call
Before and after the lecture, refreshments were served as students worked on establishing vital connections with local professionals.
Danielle Hatfield is a recent member of WithIt. She and her husband Brandon Pierce are owners of Experience Farm, providing “organic solutions for your brand” with tips on web development, brand strategy, email marketing, graphics design, and social media.
