[2nd] year: New York City Trip

November 15, 2011 § Leave a comment

Recently, Jonathon Anderson led a couple of students from his second year studio on a trip to New York City.  While on this trip, they were encouraged to pay close attention to not only the atmosphere of the city but specifically their site, onto which they are to apply their final designs. This site is located at 110 Prince St. (between Greene St. and Wooster St.) in the Soho community. Their current project entails that each designer consider a maximum buildable footprint of 20 by 25 feet with no limit to height. In addition, each designer is to think about the design from the inside out through the exploration of environmental issues and how they affect the skinless space. “Visiting and interacting with the site has given me a completely different perspective of the space than I had through photographs; now I understand the context of the site by experiencing the activity of the surrounding culture and New York City itself” says second year Laura Kimmel. Below are a series of photos from the trip.
