[4th] year update: DESIGN IN THE COMMUNITY

All Nighter!

Travis Hicks’ 4th year studio will soon begin work on designing a renovation and addition for theVance Chavis Library located on the corner of Lee St and Benbow St. After attending the opening of the McGirt-Horton Branch Library, the students will take on field research in the developing of one of Greensboro’s public libraries. Students will be working with local community members to address their needs and issues with the current space. The project is aimed towards the local community to show that good design does change how a space functions and feels.

To prepare for the library design, they were asked to develop a space to read and relax within the Gatewood Studio Building. This exercise serves as preparation for designing spaces that people would feel comfortable studying or reading in for the Vance Chavis Library.  See some models below and stay tuned for updates on their projects!
